Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Launches Initiatives for Journalists and Legal Experts in Pakistan

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched two important initiatives for different sectors in Pakistan. The first initiative is the Prime Minister’s Health Program, which aims to provide health insurance to journalists, media workers, artists, and technical resources. Under this program, eligible individuals will receive world-class health facilities free of charge in 1,200 hospitals across the country, with an annual corporate health insurance worth Rs1.5 million.
The second initiative is the Pakistan Code, a digital repository of federal laws accessible through a mobile app and website. This platform will enable judges, lawyers, legal experts, law students, government officials, and the general public to access all types of federal laws easily.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz distributed health cards among prominent journalists. He highlighted that this is the first time in the country’s history that such a facility has been launched for journalists and media workers who often work under challenging conditions. The health program aims to prioritize the health and well-being of those who contribute significantly to the nation’s media landscape.
Under this initiative, eligible individuals will have access to high-quality health facilities in 1,200 hospitals across Pakistan. The health insurance coverage of Rs1.5 million annually will ensure that journalists and media workers can avail necessary medical treatments without financial burden, thus improving their overall well-being.

The second initiative, the Pakistan Code, is a significant step towards enhancing access to federal laws. This digital repository, accessible through a mobile app and website, is designed to benefit judges, lawyers, legal experts, law students, government officials, and the general public. The platform will serve as a comprehensive and user-friendly resource, making it easier for stakeholders to access and understand federal laws.
By providing easy access to federal laws, the Pakistan Code aims to promote transparency, accountability, and legal knowledge. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of creating an informed and law-abiding society.

In addition to the health program, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a special fund for journalists and media workers. Under this fund, Rs4 million will be paid as compensation to the families of those who die in the line of duty. This gesture aims to recognize the sacrifices made by journalists and media workers while reporting from challenging and often dangerous situations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz assured that this compensation amount would be gradually increased, reflecting his commitment to supporting the families of those who serve the nation through their work in the media industry.

Addressing the criticism he has faced from journalists since taking office in April 2022, the Prime Minister emphasized his belief in the freedom of media. He acknowledged that criticism is an essential part of a democratic society, but also stressed the importance of constructive criticism based on facts. Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to upholding press freedom and fostering a conducive environment for the media to fulfill its role as the Fourth Estate.

Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, also present at the event, highlighted that the initiatives launched align with the vision Shehbaz Sharif had as an opposition leader. The aim was to provide maximum facilities to journalists and media workers, and now, with these initiatives, that vision has become a reality.
The launch of the Prime Minister’s Health Program and the Pakistan Code signifies the government’s commitment to supporting the media industry and legal professionals. These initiatives are expected to have a positive impact on the well-being of journalists and media workers and enhance access to legal knowledge for all stakeholders in Pakistan.
With these pioneering efforts, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif seeks to build a more informed, healthier, and progressive society, where the contributions of journalists and legal experts are recognized and valued.
